The Book Studio began more than twenty years ago when I took early retirement from the my full time occupation as a vet in general practice and began an unexpected journey into the world of bookbinding.

In 2004 I was awarded joint first prize in the annual Designer Bookbinders Competition and went on to exhibit with them in London on several occasions before settling into the world of book repairs, running bookbinding courses and the making of fine bindings. Difficulties with my hands prevent me from working as a bookbinder and I now have more time to devote to writing.

The love of traditional boats and sailing has been a constant in my life since childhood, and being no longer able to sail I began another unexpected journey into writing about the maritime history of the East Anglian coast.
