A small leather bound volume of poetry and prose from Venice. This binding has a foredge flap in the Islamic style, making a third surface available for decoration. Black leather onlays depict the Rialto Bridge, Santa Maria Della Salute and San Giorgio Maggiore. The surface of the water is represented with inlaid copper strips and their reflections drawn in blind tooling beneath.
The endpapers are decorated with a combination of printing techniques and copper leaf. Outlines of the architecture are drawn onto the lining of the drop-backed book box.
This binding was awarded Highly Commended in 2007.
