An entry in the Designer Bookbinders annual competition, this new Folio Society edition of the much-loved French novel by Alain-Fournier is covered in terracotta coloured goatskin. The decoration on the front cover suggests the scene where the love-lorn hero waits outside the house of his lost love in Paris. Using a combination of reverse leather onlays, blind tooling, copper wire and copper leaf, a Parisian house is depicted with a shadowy figure at the window of an upstairs room. The leaves on the trees are depicted with inlaid copper.
The outline of the house is repeated on the lining of the drop-backed book box, and the leather-jointed endpapers are a monoprint on the same theme
